Refacing Your Kitchen

by admin on January 9, 2010

One of the easiest ways to give your kitchen a new upgraded look is to paint the cabinets and purchase new kitchen cabinet doors and drawer fronts. The kitchen cabinets need to be cleaned, patched as needed, and sanded to accept paint. New custom cabinet doors can be purchased to replace old, worn doors. I recommend using paint grade poplar for paint grade doors and drawer fronts. Poplar is a relatively hard wood that won’t dent easily. I recommend brushing the cabinets because of cost considerations, and utilizing spray paint for the doors and drawer fronts. Every coat of paint will require light sanding. While water-based paints have improved greatly over the years, I am still more comfortable with oil-based paints in the kitchen because of the presence of steam and heat.
